Rockingham County Toys for Tots Wins Regional Award for Excellence
On September 14th, Tommy Thorn received the LCO Campaign of the Year award on behalf of Rockingham County Toys for Tots (Wentworth, NC) for Region 2! There were 120 campaigns in 2017 covered by LCOs in Region 2. We would like to express our gratitude to our outstanding volunteers especially the Jenkins family and the L.O.T 2540 volunteers, our sponsoring organization Midway Monroeton VFW Post 8297, and the local businesses within our community who have helped us throughout the years. We could not have done it without you all.
In an email from the Toys for Tots Foundation it was explained, "The Foundation has completed its review and internal audits of each local site that conducted Marine Toys for Tots campaigns during 2017 in 800 communities covering all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Virgin Islands. After this deliberate review process, the Foundation identified those campaigns and their coordinators that were exceptional. This review takes time, but we are finally able to announce the National and Regional Campaigns and Coordinators of the Year.
Many are deserving of this recognition, but only one Marine and one Local Community Organization (LCO) volunteer from each region receive this honor annually. It is an extremely difficult process to determine the winners as each year we see improvements in many local campaigns. Although this effort is very difficult, but it does ensure your communities are served by truly dedicated people, committed to the mission of helping our Nation’s greatest resource, its children. Keys to the success of a local campaign are detailed planning and outstanding organization which allows the campaign’s volunteers to execute their work with precision. While individual coordinators are being recognized for their stellar performance, I am sure that each will say that their recognition is due to the hard work, enthusiasm and commitment of the dedicated staff of volunteers (Marine or civilian) supporting the campaign.
Winners are determined by several different criteria.  Some of the more important items are:
  1. Scope of the campaign
  2. Adherence to administrative procedures
  3. Spirit of teamwork demonstrated
  4. Attention to detail
  5. Planning
  6. Effectiveness of execution of the local plan
  7. Responsiveness
  8. Timeliness
  9. Communication w/local businesses, volunteers, and recipients AND Marine Toys for Tots Foundation
  10. Results of Internal Audit”
Rockingham County Toys for Tots is looking forward to another successful campaign this Christmas. We are kicking off the start with a fundraiser on September 29, at Short Sugar’s in Reidsville. Come by and make a donation or go online before or on the 29th to make a donation. Innospec Cares will double all donations received during this event. Again, thank you all for helping the children of Rockingham County receive the magic of Christmas.
