DESCRIPTION:Join Us For the Opening Reception\n\n10th * April * 2014\n\n Dan River Art Market & Gallery\, 1122 NC Hwy 65\, Wentworth\, NC\n\nAn Exhibit of Environmental Imagery\n\n\n\nWhen\n\n6:00PM - 8:00PM\n\nReception: April 10\n\nExhibit up through May 2\, 2014\n\nWhere\n\nDan River Art Market & Gallery\n\n1122 NC Hwy 65\n\nWentworth\, NC\n\n\n\nJoin Artists\, the Arts Community and the Rockingham County Arts Council at the Dan River Art Market & Gallery for an exhibit of imagery that describes the beauty of nature\, the use of nature by business and society and interpretations of Environmental Art. \n\n \n\nSeveral local artists are joining this exhibit: Cheryl Garrity of Madison\, NC\, who has won several awards with the Fine Art Festival Association and has been published in environmental periodicals\, is a recognized photographer of landscapes\, wildflowers and wildlife with selections of her work on permanent exhibit at the Justice Center in Wentworth\, NC and a variety of locations throughout our county and the Triad. Kathryn Gauldin of Eden\, NC will be exhibiting a selection of textile images that reflect nature\, found objects and pattern. Kay Spencer of Eden will be sharing several of her new environmental photographs. Other artists participating will be announced as their artwork is confirmed. \n\n \n\nThis special exhibit is pleased to include the photography of recent Carl V. Galie\, Jr\, recent winner of the Roosevelt - Ashe Conservation award for Journalism for his work on mountain top removal. Carl and North Carolina Poet Laureate Joseph Bathanti have joined together to create a literary and artistic coalition of Galie's photo documentary\, "Lost on the Road to Oblivion: The Vanishing Beauty of Coal Country." Galie longs for the viewer's focus to be aimed on mountaintop removal through the Southern Appalachians and the irreversible destruction it has caused to communities of people\, scenic views of beauty\, and even the sacredness of headstones. The work is on display at Sechrest Art Gallery at High Point University. Carl will present a brief presentation about his work.
