SUMMARY:Fall Concert Series at Chinqua Penn Plantation
DESCRIPTION:Chinqua Penn PlantationAN AMERICAN TREASURE Beginning Thursday\, September 4\, 2008\, Chinqua Penn Plantation & Vineyards\, at 2138 Wentworth Street in Reidsville\, N.C.\, will kick off their 'free' Fall Music Series scheduled during the four Thursdays in September from 6-9pm. You may bring a picnic or eat supper from Mom's Kitchen with us each week. Seven Chinqua Penn wines will be available to purchase by the glass\, bottle or case\, as well as soft drinks and Chinqua Penn water. Performing September 4th\, will be Bradford Reaves & Friends\, local singer/songwriter\; Reaves sang a church solo at age 14\, kept on singing and then began playing. Sporting his "Western Carolina University opera meets mountain-music-paid-for-by-funk-band music roots"\, Reaves continues to perform\, teach\, produce music and build his song catalogue\, which has earned songwriter awards and publishing contracts. His vocals and lead guitar\, stir themselves in with the others to move the whole music experience On the 11th\, Jonny Colley\, local singer/songwriter it's not easy to describe Jonny's songwriting style other than to say that it's rather eclectic. As a songwriter his music defies easy classification and can vary quite a bit from one song to the next and from one CD to the next. Someone once called him a "Zen hillbilly with something to say". Americana comes the closest to describing his overall musical style. For Colley\, music is life\, and life is music. Colley has been performing for about thirty years. He's played larger venues such as the Charlie Poole Music Festival\, the Bright Leaf Hoedown. For several years in a row Jonny was featured at RCC's "Homemade Music" concerts. He continues to play various coffeehouses\, clubs\, and bars\, and have had some songs featured on the radio. On September18th\, the Astanza Project performs. It is collaboration between guitarists/composers Jim Boitnott and Lubo Astinove with percussionist William von der Goltz. Their music is a fusion of many styles... a little Latin\, a little jazz\, a little flamenco\, a little Brazilian with some gypsy and Eastern European flavor. From hauntingly melodic ballads to upbeat songs that will leave you wanting more. On Thursday the 25th\, Michael Ken\, singer/songwriter from this area has been writing and arranging songs since 1986. Over the years\, he developed a style both instrumentally and vocally that is unique only to him. This tall guy\, from North Carolina\, that knows no one as a stranger\, can sing a song like you have never heard before. Once you have locked in on the voice\, emotion and passion of Michael Ken\, you realize that you are in the presence of an amazingly talented man that can bare his soul in a song. Take that and couple it with a great entertainer that can draw you into his world when he walks onto the stage and you have Michael Ken. His most recent accomplishment was winning the 2006 Nashville Music Network's annual talent show held in Nashville one year ago. Currently he is working on his next CD in Nashville. Talent\, stage presence\, charisma and soul equate to one great show every time and leaves you wanting to hear and see more. As Michael Ken puts it\, "Music is my life and my life is now my music."
