HISTORIC PENN HOUSE CHRISTMAS OPEN HOUSE

Historic Penn House Christmas Open HouseThe beautiful historic Penn House, located at 324 Maple Ave, Reidsville, NC, will open its doors again this Christmas season on Saturday, December 07, for an afternoon of Christmas entertainment and tours.  The magnificent 12,500-square-foot home was built by tobacco magnate, Charles Penn, and is owned and operated by the City of Reidsville. 
 
According to Judy Yarbrough, Penn House/Market Square Manager, “The home is beautifully decorated for Christmas. We like to share this with the community. This home is a treasure for our City, County and region. Weddings are held here every weekend from April through October. It’s the perfect facility for special events, business meetings, luncheons, children’s tea parties and more. We like to open to the community a few times a year so they can come and enjoy this history. During the event we will be taking canned food donations for our local food pantries.” From 2:30-4:30, two musical groups will be performing.  Deviate, is a group of young ladies performing a cappella Christmas Carols. Deviate began when four of the members were on their way home from the spring 2013 ICCA's in which they had just competed and placed 3rd with their current group The UNCG Sapphires. How the weekend played out and how they wanted to be a part of a cappella for the rest of their lives was the main conversation the whole way home. This performance will be a real treat for the community. 
 
Also performing will be Edge of the World.  Local musical artists, husband and wife, Michael and Sara Wood will amaze you with their talents, playing a marimba and a vibraphone, percussion instruments with bars/keys made of rosewood or metal set up like a piano with white and black keys. Michael is currently working on his doctorate in music at UNCG and specializes in mallet keyboard instruments, hammered dulcimer, Cajun, and drum set.  Sara is working on a master’s degree in music theory and specializes in mallet keyboard instruments, hammered dulcimer, and flute.  
 
 Refreshments will be served. Bring your family and take your Christmas pictures in the home or on the grounds.  The event will be from 2:00-5:00 and is free.  Staff will be on hand to answer any questions.
