Dr. Carol Folt, newly appointed Chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will be the featured speaker at the First Annual Celebration of Education in Rockingham County on October 16, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. The event, to be held in the Reidsville High School Auditorium, is sponsored by the Rockingham County Education Foundation.
Recent educational achievements of Rockingham County Schools will be highlighted with a focus on the Carolina College Advisor Corps program. For the past five years, local funders of the program, Rockingham Education Foundation and the Reidsville Area Foundation, have helped sponsor a recent UNC graduate to provide college and scholarship counseling at each high school in the county. The success of Rockingham County’s program has made it a model for the State.
Jim Burnette, the Chairman of the Board of the Rockingham County Education Foundation says, “We are very impressed by the work the college advisors do. Both the value of scholarships awarded and the number of seniors planning to continue their education beyond high school have increased tremendously since the program began. Those who attend October 16 will enjoy hearing the inspiring stories of the advisors and the students they have helped.”
The public is invited.
