The Swine Flu and its Impact on Your Business
SWINE FLU…KNOW THE FACTS
Increasing alarm about the recent swine flu cases, has created health concerns among health care providers, business owners and citizens of Rockingham County. In an effort to remain both an effective and responsible resource of information,
the Rockingham County Department of Public Health is diligently working with local, state and federal authorities to provide the most up-to-date information and precautionary measures available. According to Glenn Martin, Rockingham County
Health Director, “Precautionary measures and swine flu updates are being provided to government officials, school personnel, child care providers, nursing homes, correctional facilities and health care providers in Rockingham County. The swine flu is a type A influenza virus that regularly causes outbreaks of influenza in the pig population and is not normally found in humans; however human-to-human transmission can and does occur. This is a respiratory virus and is not spread through food products.
Symptoms of the swine flu are similar to those of regular seasonal flu, which include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headaches, chills and fatigue. Some have reported diarrhea and vomiting with the swine flu. Just as the symptoms of swine flu are similar to seasonal flu, the spread is similar. The flu viruses are spread mainly from person to person through coughing or sneezing and may also spread by touching something with flu viruses on it and then touching your mouth, eyes and nose.
