Andrea Frazier Receives UNC Health Rockingham DAISY Award for Extraordinary Patient Care

EDEN, N.C., August 31, 2026 - Andrea Frazier, RN, was recently honored with The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses at UNC Health Rockingham for her work in the Emergency Department. Hospital nursing leadership and senior administrators gathered with Frazier's fellow nursing teammates and family members to celebrate her outstanding commitment to patient care.

Frazier was nominated by a family member who praised the kindness, professionalism and genuine commitment she demonstrated while caring for several of the family’s loved ones over the past year. The nominator described Frazier as compassionate, caring and attentive, noting her willingness to listen, advocate for patients and step in whenever someone needed help. The family was especially touched when Frazier stopped by simply to check on them before a loved one was admitted—a thoughtful gesture that showed how deeply she cares for patients and their families.

“It is so rewarding to be recognized as a DAISY Award winner. As a nurse, I aim to go above and beyond for each patient I encounter, especially considering any visit to the emergency room typically is not a planned event,” said Frazier. “I have been a nurse for five years since graduating from the nursing program at RCC. Staying local to serve members of my community has always been a priority, and I am honored to be able to impact patients’ lives every day in my career.”

The DAISY Foundation was established in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes who died from complications of the autoimmune disease Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura (ITP) at the age of thirty-three. His family wanted a meaningful way to recognize and honor nurses who, like those caring for Patrick and his family, provide excellent clinical care while showing great compassion for their patients. DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune SYstem.
