UNC Cancer Care at Rockingham, A Service of UNC Hospitals, Expands Access to Care with Catherine Lun

EDEN, N.C., September 28, 2026 — UNC Cancer Care at Rockingham, A Service of UNC Hospitals, is pleased to announce that Catherine Lunt, FNP-C, has joined the team as a Nurse Practitioner. The addition of Catherine expands access to cancer care for patients throughout Rockingham County and the surrounding region.

 

A Rockingham County native, Catherine brings a strong background in patient-centered care and a passion for supporting individuals and families facing complex health challenges. She most recently served as a Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner, where she specialized in symptom management and guiding patients and loved ones through difficult healthcare decisions.

"Catherine's experience and compassionate approach to care make her an outstanding addition to our team," said Allison Farris, Director of Clinical Operations. "Her deep connection to this community, combined with her clinical expertise, will help us continue expanding access to high-quality cancer care close to home. We are thrilled to welcome her to UNC Cancer Care at Rockingham."

 

Catherine earned her Family Nurse Practitioner degree from Averett University and previously completed a Master of Science in Nursing Education from East Carolina University. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Winston-Salem State University and an Associate Degree in Nursing from Rockingham Community College.

Her interest in oncology is deeply personal. Having lost both of her parents to cancer, Catherine is passionate about advancing cancer care and helping patients navigate their treatment journeys with compassion and expertise. In her previous role, she collaborated closely with many members of the UNC Cancer Care at Rockingham team, making her transition to oncology a natural next step in her career.

 

"I am truly honored to join the UNC Cancer Care at Rockingham team," said Lunt. "Helping patients and families in my home community navigate their cancer journey is a personal mission, and I'm excited to bring my experience in palliative care to oncology."

 

Catherine sees her background in palliative care as a valuable complement to oncology practice and is committed to helping patients achieve the best possible quality of life throughout treatment. Her addition further strengthens UNC Health Rockingham Cancer Care's commitment to providing comprehensive, compassionate cancer services close to home.
